Europe is increasingly utilizing carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. In practice, this means that any emissions released into the atmosphere will need to be offset by an equivalent amount of removal. To achieve this goal, Project Greensand has been launched. It is the first venture which focuses on cross-border carbon capture and storage. It ships CO₂ from Belgium and stores it in a depleted oil field under the Danish North Sea.
