Norway’s waters contain extensive reserves of oil and gas, making it one of the wealthiest countries in Europe as well as a major fossil fuel producer and exporter in the world. Despite significant monetary value, Norway’s over-reliance on oil and gas is now seen as problematic. The government aims to transform the country into a low-emission economy by 2050 and reduce emissions by 90–95%. Right now, it focuses on accelerating the transition to renewable energy sources. Since 2014, the government has initiated several ‘clusters’ to facilitate the development of innovations.
